Help give more children access to amazing adventures
The number of children experiencing poverty is rising. And with the squeeze on school budgets and household purses, more school residential trips are being cancelled. Whole classes miss out.
Missing out on long-awaited trips is detrimental to all children. But for children from low-income families, it could mean missing out on their only night away from home.
Please give what you can to help make sure no child is left behind.

Thank you to our young voiceover contributors Chloe, Noah, Aimée, Marcus and Jamie. Also to Young Actors Theatre Islington and the schools that allowed us to record background audio during their YHA residentials.
The difference your donation will make
£50 can unlock an enriching experience
Pay for a child from a low-income background to have a place on an overnight trip.
£100 can make adventure a reality for a child
Support their place on a two-night residential school trip.
10,000 children will go on an amazing adventure
If we reach our £1m target, we’ll help thousands of children who would otherwise miss out because their families or schools simply can’t afford it.
The unique value of school trips
School residentials can have a transformative impact on a child’s life. Creating a sense of freedom, community and unlocking creativity. Research has shown time and again that school trips have long-lasting, positive outcomes for all children. And the positive benefits to vulnerable children are even greater.
But don’t just take our word for it…
“For two days, extremely disadvantaged children could put the worries and concerns they live with daily behind them. To sleep in a bed with bedding, have a warm shower and eat as much as they like for breakfast. I can’t express enough the impact that the experience has had.”
Lisa, primary school teacher
“Twenty or so years since we began visiting YHA, former pupils still tell me how much they learnt and how much they enjoyed it. It’s so important that every child gets to take part regardless of background, finances and previous experience.”
Matt, headteacher, West Horndon Primary School
“School trips are a formative experience for school pupils. They provide memories which last a lifetime. They inspire and motivate young people towards greater levels of achievement in their studies and in their personal development.”
David, outdoor leader
No child left behind
As teachers, outdoor educators, and — most importantly — primary school pupils tell us, school residentials leave a lasting impact on a child’s life. Together, we can make sure this generation of children gets the opportunity to be included, develop their independence and learn valuable life skills.
