What it will take to transform Bryn
Bryn sits in the heart of the Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park, in a truly breath-taking location on the shores of Llyn Gwynant.
We have big plans for this hostel to make sure its interior matches its spectacular setting. If we achieve our fundraising target, we’ll be able to make a number of much-needed changes to Bryn. With the changes we have planned, we hope to create our first five-star hostel in North Wales – a rating that would reflect the scope of this project and the love that we have for this beautiful place.
Your support could make these changes to Bryn:
The hostel will be entirely refurbished, improving the fabric of the main building throughout. We will redo the electrics, plumbing, address any structural issues, modernise the facilities and upgrade every room to en suites.
We will open up the communal areas and the dining space so that guests can take in the spectacular panoramic views from the terrace.
We will add a wheelchair accessible room to the Coach House and improve accessibility throughout the hostel.
We will renovate and extend the existing Coach House, refurbishing its bedrooms and building a classroom that will provide a learning space for school and educational groups.
The cost of doing it all, to achieve our complete vision, which includes the establishment of a YHA Campus at Bryn and setting up a dedicated supported breaks fund, is estimated to be £2 million. We are setting out to raise a minimum of £500,000 with the rest being matched by YHA. If we can raise more than our £500,000 target (and we aspire to raise £1 million), it will mean we can do more at Bryn and increase investment in our wider charitable work.
The total cost of the building works alone is £1.92 million. The minimum we hope to raise through our fundraising efforts is £500,000.
More than a building
The beauty of our properties rarely come from the buildings alone. And Bryn is the perfect example of this. Its location in the Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park, its proximity to the highest heights and the deepest valleys. It’s just breathtaking.
The shore of Llyn Gwynant is metres from the hostel grounds, and its glassy reflection is the first thing many guests see when they open their curtains in the morning. Staying at Bryn opens up a world of exhilarating outdoor activities as well as opportunities to connect, escape and reflect. More than just a building, Bryn is a gateway.
What else could we do?
Skills for work
The YHA Campus would provide opportunities for up to 100 young people a year to develop the skills they need for the world of work – through supported volunteering opportunities, work experience, work placements, traineeships and apprenticeships.
Supporting families and young people
A dedicated supported breaks fund would provide free overnight stays for families and young people with challenging lives in the years following Bryn’s re-opening.
Restoring the splendour of the grounds
If we raise sufficient funding we will begin to improve the 42-acre grounds at Bryn for everyone to enjoy.
